The 2024 bait herring fishery was a success, with three fishers making twelve deliveries to the Norton Sound Seafood plant in Unalakleet. Fishing began Friday, May 30th and concluded Friday, June 7th. NSEDC had a target of 75 tons for the season, with a dock price of $600/ton. Fishers delivered 138,379 pounds of herring, or 69.19 tons, earning over $41,000 for their efforts. Norton Sound fishers will utilize the herring as bait for the commercial Norton Sound crab and halibut fisheries occurring later this summer season.
