NSEDC Issues $1.5 Million in Storm Relief

September 21, 2022 By NSEDC

Each community to receive $100,000 Community Benefit Share payment to address immediate needs

In response the devastating impacts of Typhoon Merbok, the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation (NSEDC) Board of Directors approved a special Community Benefit Share of $100,000 for each of NSEDC’s 15 member communities on September 21.  The $1.5 million in total payments will assist communities in meeting immediate needs.

“We know that many of our communities and residents are still digging out, cleaning up and assessing the total impact from the storm,” said NSEDC Board Chairman Frank Katchatag.  “We hope this assistance will help address urgent issues and needs as we get the full picture of what it will take to rebuild and recoup from this historic and horrific storm.”

The grants will be issued in the coming days to the municipalities in NSEDC’s member communities, which will then determine the best use of the funding.
