In 2021, payments of $575 benefit 2,657 households in NSEDC’s member communities
UNALAKLEET – Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation (NSEDC) distributed more than $1.52 million to regional utility providers as part of the 2021 Energy Subsidy. This amount represents 2,657 households in NSEDC’s member communities receiving a $575 energy subsidy primarily applied to their electric utility bill. Those living off the electrical grid were given the opportunity for a $575 fuel credit to a fuel vendor in their community.
The Energy Subsidy aims to benefit every resident in the Norton Sound region. Households in NSEDC’s 15 member communities, in total, have saved more than $16.35 million in the 10 years NSEDC has issued energy subsidies. Through this program, the NSEDC Board of Directors aims to provide some economic relief following a long winter and before a busy spring and summer in the Norton Sound region.
“Before our subsistence and commercial fishing season, we’re very grateful to provide a boost to each household in the region,” NSEDC Board Chairman Frank Katchatag said. “I am thankful NSEDC is in a place where we can provide the Energy Subsidy. The NSEDC Board of Directors and staff will continue to work to ensure financial stability to provide meaningful benefits.”
Payments to utilities and fuel vendors were completed by April 21, 2021. For more information on the 2021 NSEDC Energy Subsidy, contact Community Benefits Director Paul Ivanoff III at (800) 385-3190 or pivanoff@nsedc.com.
