NSEDC is encouraging Norton Sound residents who have been impacted by the 2020 failed returns of chum and silver salmon, as well as the 2019 Norton Sound red king crab crash, to submit comments to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) as they develop spend plans for federal disaster funding.
Details on the disaster funding and comment opportunity can be found at the following ADF&G webpage: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=pressreleases.pr&release=2022_05_05
The deadline to comment is Wednesday, June 15.
Given the wide impact of the salmon failure and the number of other fisheries covered by the disaster funding being made available, NSEDC is providing a sample letter to assist residents in providing comments to the state. NSEDC strongly encourages both subsistence and commercial fishers to let ADF&G know how the failed crab and salmon fisheries have personally affected you and your family.
If you have any questions on the process or comment opportunity, please contact ADF&G or NSEDC by the following means:
Karla Bush, Extended Jurisdiction Program Manager: 907.465.6153 / email@example.com
Tyler Rhodes, Chief Operating Officer: 907.443.2477 / firstname.lastname@example.org
Sample letter available for download here.
