Part of supporting our member communities is helping to ensure residents have the ability to reach their full potential. To that end, NSEDC has directed funds and efforts toward programs that aim to prevent residents from falling prey to substance abuse.
Basketball is a favorite sports activity in the region; promoting physical fitness, hard work, team building, skills development and community. NSEDC provides funding for the Little Dribblers program in our 15 member community elementary school sites, as well as Shishmaref. Funded since 2002, NSEDC has helped develop elementary basketball programs, which are popular amongst the youth, adults and elders alike.
To continue fostering healthy activities for youth, funding is also available to the 15 member communities, and Shishmaref, for Middle School activities. Ranging from cross-country ski programs to after-school art classes, the Middle School activity funding continues to foster healthy activities and choices in our member communities.
